Boise Acting Studio is the Treasure Valley’s premier training ground for film, television, and stage actors.

We offer professional-level acting classes and private coaching for adults at all experience levels.  Whether you are a complete beginner, or a professional working actor, all are welcome here.  Our studio is built on the belief that great acting isn’t about pretending, it’s about authenticity.

Whether you’re a trained actor looking for a place to stretch and work consistently, someone completely new and curious about acting, or someone drawn to this work for personal growth, our curriculum meets you where you are. Each actor is guided through a clear, carefully structured progression, tailored to their level and experience.

The standards, however, are always professional.

This is a space for focused, meaningful work where you’ll be challenged, supported, and expected to fully engage with the craft. You don’t need experience to begin, but you do need a willingness to show up, commit, and take the work seriously.

Led by veteran actor and coach April Matson, the studio brings high-level training typically only found in Los Angeles and New York right here in Boise. Whether your goal is to pursue a professional career or personal growth, you’ll be trained with the same rigor, expectation, and respect for the craft.

We are a Hybrid Meisner studio, grounded in the work of Sanford Meisner and influenced by Stella Adler, Uta Hagen, Eric Morris, and filmmaker John Cassavetes. Our focus is on emotional preparation, moment-to-moment truth, and developing actors who are fully present, instinctive, and alive in their work.

The foundation of the curriculum comes through a direct line to Sanford Meisner himself. April’s teacher, Andrew Benne, studied under Edward Kaye-Martin, who taught for Meisner at The Neighborhood Playhouse. That means the tools you are learning in class are part of a living tradition, grounded in Meisner’s original work and passed down through generations of teachers. This lineage is not about learning “tricks” to act.  It’s about cultivating authenticity, emotional truth, and freedom in the moment.

The industry has changed. Actors no longer need to live in Los Angeles or New York to build meaningful careers.  However, they do need the same level of training, discipline, and expectation.

That’s what we offer here.

Studio Rental

Boise Acting Studio is a 30-seat blackbox theatre with ample parking located at 23rd & Main Street near downtown Boise. 

The studio is available for rehearsals, script read-throughs, workshops, classes, podcasts, events and performances.
